A Slow Start to The Season, But Some Trails in Wisconsin Opening

Snowmobile riders in Iron County can expect trails to be in rough conditions, with a lot of thin spots due to the lack of snow. Little snow not withstanding, Iron County is expected to be the first county in Wisconsin to open snowmobile trails for the season. The county Forestry and Parks Department announced that the trail system will be open as of 7 am Thursday. More snow will be much welcomed, but the county says there’s been enough to at least establish a solid base for the year. The Mercer Area Sno-Goers report says snow cover is anywhere from 1-3”, with the Turtle Flambeau Flowage at 100%. Riders are advised to stay on marked trails as it has been rerouted due to massive ice heaves. Volunteers will be out checking trails and grooming all this week. The Sno-Goers also remind riders that their 18th Annual Winter Blast will be this Saturday, be sure and check their Facebook page for more information.
