Firefighters in Eagle River are crossing their fingers, knocking on wood and watching the weather forecast…high hopes are in good supply for a winter cold enough to allow the crew to build its annual Ice Castle. The Eagle River Fire Department posted on Facebook that they have 6.5 inches of good ice on Silver Lake with traces of snow and zero slush. They marked the ice cutting location and are hoping not too much rain will fall in the next few days. The Ice Castle was first built in 1933 for King Winter Festival downtown. The castle brings visitors from across the area to see and record for posterity the structure. Find out more about the Ice Castle at eagleriver.org.
