Public Facility in Wakefield to Get A Facelift

Grant funding from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund has been allocated to the city of Wakefield to expand Sunday Lake Eddy Park Campground in 2026. Wakefield City Manager Robert Brown says the grant is just over $274K to enhance the campground, including putting in three new solar powered cabins. Wakefield is one of the last populated areas visitors encounter before heading into the park, so the cabins will allow for more visitors to stop, stay and shop in Wakefield before pedal biking or backpacking into the Porkies. Michigan DNR Recreation grants manager Jon Mayes says the DNR’s mission is to keep outdoor recreation alive and geared toward visitors to the state and the new cabins and refurbishment will be a welcome addition.
