Once Familiar Event Comes Back to Ironwood

For the first time in quite a few years, the Shop With A Cop event took place in Ironwood this past weekend, made possible by teamwork between the Gogebic-Ontonagon Counties Communities that Care and the Michigan State Police. Fifteen kids, each with a police officer had breakfast from Don and GG’s in Ironwood and did come crafts provided by the Ontonagon Artists Collective, then they went shopping for at Walmart, Tractor Supply and Abelman Clothing for winter gear. The idea behind the event was to help support kids in need and to strengthen the positive image of law enforcement, showing kids and families that cops aren’t there just to enforce the law, but also to support the community. Organizers Carly Hesterberg of Communities That Care and Joe Renaud, the community service trooper with the Wakefield post of the Michigan State Police said they were grateful for the great response from the community.
