Ironwood Abuzz With A Familiar Sound This Past Weekend

The Mount Zion Snocross Nationals brought sno machine racing enthusiasts and competitors from across the country. Pro racers competed for $10,000 on Friday and Saturday and there were also non-pro categories, including a kids division for riders to compete in. Neil Schwab, a former Snocross racer who competed at Mt. Zion before it was a national competition, said he’s watched the evolution of the U.P. event first hand, since Mt. Zion began collaborating with the world’s top snowmobile racing series, the I.S.O.C. The races are a major economic driver for Ironwood early in the winter recreation season, bringing more than $1.2 million dollars into the community each year.
