An accident Friday morning on Highway 17 in Sugar Camp claimed the life of an Eagle River woman. The Oneida County Sheriff’s office reported the single vehicle crash occurred near Sunset Road around 10 am. 70-year-old Paula Cope was a passenger in the car that left the roadway and struck a tree. Cope had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews and was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died. The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries. Icy road conditions are said to have contributed to the crash. The Sugar Camp Fire Department assisted at the scene. Investigation into the crash continues.
