At the most recent meeting of the Hurley School Board, the board heard a progress report from Jacob Hostettler, the metal shop teacher in Northwoods Manufacturing. TheDailyGlobe reports besides what the students have learned in shop class, students also have been taking a home maintenance class that Hostettler teaches. The students learn cooking skills, including budgeting and marketing for the meals they cook. The class even plans on cooking a Thanksgiving dinner to share with teachers and friends. They’re also learning other skills, like sewing, with the help of Joanna Krone, the school custodian. Future plans for the class will also focus on minor home repairs and upkeep. The class will also hold a fundraiser to purchase new cookware in the near future.
