USDA Announces Changes in SNAP Benefits

The USDA has announced that changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP have taken effect. The USDA has increased the maximum allotments given to families but has also changed the eligibility requirements. Unfortunately. the increase amounts to less than 1% according to the Feeding America West Michigan President/CEO Ken Estelle. Estelle also says the income limit to receive SNAP benefits has increased by about 4%, which ends up being equal to recent wage increases. For more information on what the changes mean to local families, go to fns.usda.gov.
