Ironwood Gets Federal Funding for Water Projects

The City of Ironwood is slated to receive over $3 million in funding to update its water distribution and sewer systems. The funding comes in the form of water and wastewater disposal loans and grants from the USDA. The funding is part of $42 million Michigan will receive to update water systems. Ironwood will use that funding to replace sanitary sewer and storm sewer mains as well as manholes. Funding will come in the form of a $3,348,000 grant and a $1,540,000 loan. Chief Infrastructure Officer, Zachary Kolodin says increasing capacity when it comes to water systems in the U.P. will be an important part of its population and economic growth.
