The Gogebic County Board of Commissioners have passed the budget for 2025. According to TheDailyGlobe, the vote on the general fund budget took place on September 25th, passing the budget of almost $9.1 million. The budget includes sharing a part of the county’s payment in lieu of taxes or PILT funds with townships that include national forests. The PILT sharing has been requested by Marenisco and Watersmeet townships, and would include Bessemer, Ironwood and Wakefield. 15% of the county’s PILT funding would be disbursed in relation to how much forestland each township has.
