Wisconsin State Reforestation Needs Your Help

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is looking for pine cones, red pine cones to be exact. Every year, the Forest Regeneration program looks for red pine cones in order to extract the seeds to grow new seedlings. There are stations around the state, including one in Rhinelander, where you can drop off bushels of red pine cones, and they’ll pay you $125 a bushel for properly collected cones. Every year, at least 120 bushels of conces are need to supply enought seeds for the next year’s seedlings. To find out more about the program and to make sure you’re harvesting pine cones properly, contact your local Department of Natural Resources station.
