Train fans get ready, the inaugural Railroad Day Celebration hosted by the Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine #730 Authority is this Friday at the Antique Village at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba. The event coincides with the Soo Line Historical & Technical Society’s annual convention, which is returning to the U.P. for the first time since 2003 with the theme “An Upper Peninsula Homecoming.” The Antique Village blacksmith will be working and the Upper Michigan Central Model Railroad Club will be open and holding demonstrations. The Little Red Caboose will be selling food, and the Corner Cone and General Store will be open. The event starts at 10 am and runs through 4. Admission is free.
