History Makes a Stop in White Pine

Saturday, veterans from around the U.P. were able to visit the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, which stopped in White Pine. The Memorial Wall as travelled around the country in order to allow those who might not be able to visit the wall in Washington, D.C. American Legion Commander Aaron Gray says its the third time the wall has been to the U.P. Over 58,000 names line the wall, with 8 crosses next to the names of those from Ontonagon County who were killed in action. Vets, both uniformed and in civilian dress, as well as friends and families of those lost were able to give a final salute or touch the names of those close to them. Commander Gray says its good for the younger generation to see the memorial, to remember the ultimate sacrifice given by so many.
