Amery Woman Whose Distracted Driving Causes Deadly Accident Takes Plea Agreement

An Amery woman who ran a stop and struck another vehicle, causing the death of a passenger in the car she hit has taken a plea deal. TheDailyPress reports Mariah Reindahl agreed to pleading guilty after deciding not to take her case to trial. Reynold Elstad, George and Jacqueline Eisenmann were injured in the accident, Elstad’s wife, Susan died from injuries sustained in the crash. Reindahl admitted to looking at her phone and did not remember the sequence of events in the accident and apologized. She was ordered to serve one year in jail, probation for four years and must serve 280 hours of community service. She is also no longer allowed to own a cellphone. Family members and friends gave impact statements. At least half of Reindahl’s community service will be spend educating kids about the dangers of cel phone use behind the wheel. Circuit Court Judge John P. Anderson admonished Reindahl to share her story and warn them about the dangers of distracted driving.
