Baraga County Steps Up to Help Those in Ontonagon Who Need Care

The Baraga County Memorial Hospital held a meet and greet to allow the community to learn more about the facility’s services. Veterans affairs, transportation and surgery were some of the topics that folks had questions about. Ontonagon residents have had to adjust since Aspirus Ontonagon shut it doors in April. BCMH CEO Rob Stowe said the ER has seen 103 patients patients since the closure…1 in 10 patients have come from Ontonagon County. Residents have said they’re receiving good care at BCMH, but the travel to the facility is daunting. Communication with BCMH seems to be good, certainly preferable to Aspirus, which made decisions with almost no warning about the closure of their hospital. Aspirus won’t comment further, and BCMH expects that residents will continue to trust them with their care.
