Washburn School to Lose Beloved Educator

After decades of enriching the lives of students with music and watching dozens of senior classes graduate, band teacher Rick Seppa will soon retire from teaching middle and high schoolers in Washburn. Seppa graduated from UW-Green Bay, taught one year in Salem and then interviewed for Washburn. Five years turned into ten, and now 40 years later he’ll be putting down the baton and stepping away from the sheet music. Seppa says a lot of student are only in school for programs like his, so its been a big responsibility to make the students gain something from their time with him. Seppa isn’t stepping away from music altogether, he plays with the Ashland City Band and Northland College Band. He plans on enjoying his garden and setting his own schedule, and of course, continuing to be musical.
