Department of Natural Resources Decides Reverse Decision on Well on Bill Nichols Trail

The source of what many believe to be the purest artesian water in Ontonagon County is still an unsolved mystery, but now, rather than capping the unregulated water source that is thought to come from the old Lake Mine, the Department of Natural Resources has given in to public pressure and will drill two new wells in the area of the old water well that are up to health department standards. One well will be for the hundreds of locals who continue to draw their drinking water from the well and another that will supply the last house standing that still relies on the old well. The DNR is in the process of working with a drilling company to find the best place to drill and a local logging company has donated land for the new wells. Greenland township will take ownership of the new wells and maintain them.
