New Evidence in Monkelien Murder Trial

The attorney for Nathan Monkelien has produced new evidence that he says supports Monkelien’s claim of self-defense. TheDailyPress reports a cellphone video shows what the defense says was a utility knife in the hand of Manuel Salas, and that he menaced Monkelien, which prompted him to draw his handgun and shoot the two brothers. Monkelien’s attorney, Jeremiah Meyer-O’Day, also asked for a reduction in bail from $1 million cash bond to no more than $50,000 and a $200,000 signature bond. O’Day says the seriousness of the charges and the opportunity to clear his name are more enough to ensure that Nathan Monkelien will appear in court.
