ORV Trail Riding Open in U.P., But Not Optimal

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced that now that trails in the U.P. are open for use by ORVs, riders should exercise caution during spring break, as some areas are a mixed bag, with snowpack on trails and the ground thawed and sloppy in some areas and still frozen in others. DNR Central Upper Michigan Trail Specialist Rob Katona reports many maintnenace clubs are just getting out to inspect trails, so there may still be obstructions besides less than optimal conditions. It is also hoped that folks want to get their license and trail permits to get out and ride early, hopefully providing some business to the area that didn’t happen due to the lack of snow this past winter. Many retailers rent ORV’s to try before you decide to buy.
