Firefighters to Be Recognized for their Heroism

The team of firefighters with the Phelps fire department who helped rescue a fisherman who went through the ice on South Twin Lake in early March are now going to receive special recognition. Passerby fishemen noticed the man stranded in the water just 50 yards from shore, and when they couldn’t reach him, they called 911. The fire department sent out firefighters who were able to use a rowboat to get to the victim, who were then aided by passersby and Vilas County Sheriff’s Deputies who helped pull the boat and the men back to shore. On Wednesday, May 8th, Assistant Chief Andy Regenfuss, Rob Anderson III, Damian Seals, Sean Murphy and Jeremy Ryan will be recognized during the Phelps Town Board meeting.
