At the last meeting of the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners’ Finance, Budgeting and Auditing Committee, improvements to the Gogebic County Jail were discussed and the board voted to fund the $1.5 million in improvements. TheDailyGlobe reports the funds will come from the Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Fund. U.P. Engineering and Architects in Houghton will assess the jail’s needs and estimate costs for plumbing updates and a roof drain. A separate company will be contracted to replace the exterior steps and ramp that lead to the front door of the jail building.
