Mercer School District to Ask Taxpayers for More Budget

Tomorrow’s vote in Mercer will ask voters in the school district to approve increasing the city’s revenue limit by $800,000 for five years. If the referendum passes, the current mill rate would increase by roughly $112 for every $100,000 of equalized property value. The last reoccuring referendum for the district was passed 11 years ago. The district needs to make updates to its HVAC and electrical systems and both the district’s boilers are well past their life expectancy. The district also says the additional funding would allow it to maintain staffing, keep course and program offerings and make sure classes stay small.
