City of Ironwood Purchases Parcel of Land

The Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees has sold the land on which the Pat O’Donnell Civic Center sits on to the city of Ironwood for $1. Ironwood has leased the property from the college for the last 25 years. According to TheDailyGlobe, as city officials searched for funding to repair the ice making equipment in the Civic Center, it was discovered that the city needed to own the center and the property it sits on in order to apply for a grant. The land sold to the city includes the land under the civic center and surrounding it, including the first row of parking north of the Civic Center. If the grant funding the city qualifies for does not include the parking area, it will be sold back to the college.
