At its meeting earlier in the week, the Bessemer City Council appointed Clerk/Treasurer Mandy Lake to interim City Manager. TheDailyGlobe reports the council also voted to give her a $5,000 a year raise while she is in the position. She was also instructed to prepare a job posting for the position of City Manager. Before voting unanimously to appoint Lake, the council engaged in serious conversation regarding Lake covering essentially three city jobs. Lake didn’t express any issue with being the interim, since it is a temporary position. Council members also had differing opinions regarding whether to post the City Manager position immediately or not. Lake recommended that the council vote on a job description and salary range for the posting at their next meeting.
