Ashland School District Board Expecting Operating Deficit

At a meeting of the Ashland School District Board, discussion regarding a new spending referendum was held, as the district is expected to be operating in the red due to a shortfall in state funding. TheAshlandDailyPress reports the district’s business manager said its not clear how large the deficit will be, because it depends on how many students enroll. Residents in the district are still paying off the 2016 referendum that financed building the Fieldhouse and other improvements. How much new spending would cost residents hasn’t been determined, but the timing of the referendum coincides with residents being asked to pay for the remodel of the Vaughn Public Library, which would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $17 a year for the first to years, then increase to $31 a year.
