The Washburn School District has announced that one of it’s own has been named the new Superintendent. TheDailyPress reports alumna Denise Michaelsen has served as director of curriculum, instruction and assessment for the Bloomer School District since 2017. She is a Washburn class of 1993 graduate. She succeeds current superintendent Thomas Wiatr, who will retire at the end of the school year after 13 years in Washburn, and a 30-year career in education. In Michaelsen’s 25 year career she has also worked as a high school science teacher and an educational consultant.
