At its last meeting, the Bayfield County Board voted against a proposal to expand the use of ATVs and UTVs on more of the county roadways. According to TheDailyPresscurrently only 40 to 50% of county highways allow those vehicles on roadways. The county has had issues with maintaining signage designating which roads the vehicles can use, which prompted the suggestion. 75% of highways in Ashland County are open for ATVs and at least 10 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties permit them on all county highways. Concerns about speed, noise and safety from residents are part of the reason the board rejected the proposal.
