FEMA Denies Governor Whitmer’s Appeal for Disaster Declaration for Counties in the U.P.

The denial of the governor’s request for disaster declaration from the Spring flooding of last year for Baraga, Gogebic, Ontonagon, Houghton, Iron, and Marquette counties, along with statewide hazard mitigation comes with the explanation that the impact to the area doesnt surpass local and state government’s capabilities to aid in recovery. According to RRN, Jenn Hill, state representative from Marquette expressed disappointment in the decision, stating that the area is still struggling to recover and on top of that is now dealing with the lack of snow in an area that is dependent on winter events and tourism. She said she will continue to fight for aid and in the meantime, she knows that Yoopers will persist.
