Bessemer Strikes Out Again With Grant Proposal, Will Try Again

With the news that the city of Bessemer didn’t qualify for a Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant from the Michigan DNR, the city council voted to send a letter to those who donated funds to cover the cost of a new trailhead, notifying them that they could retract their donation if they chose. TheDailyGlobe reports the city will apply for the grant again this year. According to Councilman Adam Zak, the grant pool for 2023 was not as large as previous years, so not many projects were funded. The city is holding $24,846 in donations in a special account. That number doesn’t include additional in-kind or pledged donations. A draft of the retraction letter will be reviewed, approved and then sent to donors.
