Wastewater Facility For Ironwood, Ironwood Township and Hurley To Be Updated

“The Gogebic-Iron Wastewater Authority has begun the upgrades funded by a loan from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and a grant from the American Rescue Plan. The plant is one of 40 projects funded this year. The upgrades will provide years of water quality in the U.P and northern Wisconsin. The total cost of the project is just over $32,000,000, with the loan from the Clean Water State Revolving fund contributing just over $12,000,000 and the grant covering $20,000,000. The combined funding will lessen rates passed on to customers and will protect the Montreal River, which the plant discharges processed, clear water into and which then flows into Lake Superior. Construction started this fall and expected to be done by this time next year.”
