Man Hit By Bayfield Police Officer Thought to Be Intoxicated

Further investigation into an accident in which a Bayfield Police officer struck a Red Cliff man in November has shown that the man hit was under the influence of drugs. Anthony “Tony” Gardner had methamphetamine, codeine and THC in his system prior to the accident, and was walking in the road and wearing dark clothing when he was hit. Several other officers were at the scene and said Kolterman was unaware that Gardner was in the road and that he was visibly shaken and distraught when he learned he had hit Gardner. TheDailyPress reports Ashland County prosecutor David Meany had determined in November that officer Lance Koltermann was not at fault in the accident.
