Lac du Flambeau Tribe Announces Terms in Easement Issue

Recently, the president of the Lac du Flambeau tribe sent a letter to the Town Chairman Matt Gaulke. According to WXPR, the letter included the most recent ordinance on issuing permits for roads, which stated the town will grant the town access for a year at a time with a permit fee of 1.5% of the state assessed fair market value of the homes along the road the town wants access to. However, also in the letter is the statement that the Tribe won’t issue any permits until past trespass damages are paid to the tribe. According to John Johnson’s letter, the tribe is owed nearly $10 million dollars. The town is having its legal counsel look over the letter and is expected to meet again on Wednesday to discuss.
