Starting this summer, those living in Ashland may experience sticker shock when they open their water bills. TheDailyPress reports the city has filed a proposal with the state Public Service Commission to raise water rates by almost 16% in 2024 and almost 20% the following year. The PSC has to sign off on the increase, but if it does the July bill will probably reflect the increase. City officials say there hasn’t been an increase in 8 years and is necessary, the 26” water intake for the city that extends 4000 ft. into Lake Superior is well over a hundred years old, must be replaced and funds from the increase will go towards that.
