A Wisconsin man hunting in Iron County was recently rescued after a tree fell on him. WXPR reports Ed Mongin 81 of Coleman, Wisconsin was hunting with a group of friends when a tree fell and struck him on the head during a windstorm. When members of his group column’t contact him, they searched, found him and radioed out a call for help. Conservation officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources determined that an ambulance could not get to his location, Aspirus Iron River Hospital EMS personnel and those officers, assessed Mongin, and then transported him to the ambulance on the back of their pickup truck, which then transported him to the hospital. He was then MedEvac’ed by helicopter to Wausau for treatment. Doctors said the fact he survived was lucky. Ed Mongin has since started physical rehab and therapy after it was thought he’d never walk again.
