A local restaurant is a total loss after a fire on Monday morning. The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office reports the Off the Chain restaurant on State Highway 70 in the town of Washington near Eagle River was reported to be on fire at around 5:30 a.m. . A passerby reported it and then knocked on all the doors of the home next to the restaurant to be sure everyone was out. By the time first responders arrived, flames were shooting out of the building. Fire Departments from Eagle River, Conover, Phelps, and Three Lakes assisted. The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation and the Eagle River Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire. The State Fire Marshal was on scene during the call.
