Ashland Residents Opposed to Library Renovation File Petition

“The city has proposed renovations to the Vaughn Public Library that are estimated to cost taxpayers $4.3 million dollars. TheDailyPress reports a group of residents, including Don “Ocky” Jaskowiak, say the money could be better spent and that his property taxes are already too high. The City Council had already voted to borrow money and raise taxes to cover half of the renovation costs. Jaskowiak and others submitted a petition with 448 signatures mid-month to be certified. The petition is asking for the matter to be put to a vote. If the petition is certified as meeting criteria, the matter would then go before the city council for final approval of a referendum question that would be included on the Spring election ballot.
