The Tri-County Corridor has had a loan from Ashland County has been forgiven. The Tri County Corridor is a 62 mile former railbed that runs through Douglas, Bayfield and Ashland and connects Superior and Ashland. According to the AshlandDailyPress, in 2021 the county loaned the corridor a $10,000 loan after the former director embezzeled $200,000 from the its maintenance fund. Scott Williams was sentenced to time in jail and orders to pay restitution, but the corridor organization asked the counties the trail runs through for help. Bayfield and Douglas counties have contributed money, and now the Ashland County Board has voted to forgive the loan altogether. Ashland County Administrator Dan Grady has said it would be better for the corridor group to put money towards keep the trails up rather than paying back a loan.
