There is Now An Answer to the Gogebic County Fairgrounds Fire

The official word on the cause of the fire at the Gogebic County Fairground has been released. TheDailyGlobe reports the report, issued by the Ironwood Public Safety Department concluded that the fire that destroyed three structures on the grounds was accidental. The start of the fire was determined to be sparks from a small fire caused by a cutting torch that wokers thought they had successfully extinguished. No type of precaution like thermal blankets or any form of cooling was used during the cutting. It was discovered that sparks had started a fire in the wall on the north side of the grandstands. Workers tried to get at the source of the fire with an excavator. The fire quickly spread, with an easterly wind of 10-12 mph. fanning the flames. Besides structures, a power pole had caught fire burning through a power line, causing power arcs. Claims with three different insurance providers can now move forward and as of Tuesday, the county has begun the work of address projected costs for repairs of the electrical damage.
