At a separate committee meeting of the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners, the board considered the possibility of moving the county fairgrounds to a different part of the county. At a previous meeting of the Econominc Development and Capital Improvement Committee at the beginning of the month, the board discussed a letter from Marenisco Township Supervisor Bruce Mahler, who encouraged consideration of several sites in his area that would be more centrally located for a new location for the fairgrounds. Board chair Jame Lorenson said he thought a more formal proposal should be requested from Marenisco, and also said that a call for submissions from other townships and cities within the county should probably be put out. He then made a motion of send letters of invitation out. Commissioner Peterson supported the motion, Commissioner Bonovetz voted against it. During the public comment segment, Vicki Nelson of Ironwood questioned the motion. County Fair Board Chair and Economic Development Chair Byrns replied the committee was simply doing its due diligence.
