There will be a virtual information session via Zoom today at 4 p.m. regarding the installation of a new water-intake pipeline in Lake Superior to supply Ashland with water. TheAshlandDailyPress reports the new line would replace an inlet installed in the late 1800’s that has well exceeded its natural life. That 26” inlet pipe is made of cast iron and extends some 4,000 feet into Lake Superior. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has said tentatively that it will issue permits for the proposed line.
