Temporary Winter Route Between Ramsay and Wakefield Not Happening This Year

Wakefield – An email from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources stated that officials in Wakefield do not want to run another temporary route between Ramsay and Wakefield this winter. TheDailyGlobe reports the decision was sent to the Wakefield City Manager and Township Supervisor late Tuesday. Information gathered during a public meeting and input from landowners made it clear that last year’s solution would not be acceptable this year. Not having that connection between the two towns is expected to have an effect on local tourism, even though the trails will continue to be groomed from Ironwood to Ramsay. Wakefield Mayor Dale White said the city is supportive of local businesses and their desire to benefit from winter traffic, but at the same time, taxpayers concerns are also of the utmost importance.
