Personal Empowerment Goal of Rally Last Week in Wakefield

The 11th annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes rally took place in Wakefield this past Wednesday, aimed at educating and empowering the public about taking care of one’s mental health. The event was sponsored by the Gogebic Community Mental Health and Range Suicide Prevention Council. There was a symbolic walk and keynote speakers at the VFW, including Philip Hefner’Gardiepy from Northpoint Behavioral Health who said his goal is to encourage people across the area to ask for help. Crystal Suzik, who works as a family liason with the Gogebic Great Start program said mental health is just as important as physical health. A remembrance quilt with photos and the names of those lost to mental health issues was part of the day’s exhibit. For more information or if you need help, dial 988.
