Grant Money Will Help Replace Lead Service Lines, Water Main in Bessemer

Grant funding from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy will allow Bessemer to replace a segment of water main on E. Colby Street and Osmose Road, and will help with repairs to the Tilden Tank standpipe and Rock Bluff Reservoir, as well as 75 lead service lines in the city. The grant totals just under $589,000 and its not clear if that will be enough to cover the full cost of the project. Bessemer is the only U.P. community to receive funding from the $21.2 million from the EGLE.
