Bessemer Moves Forward on Parks and Rec Plan For Fishing Pond

At their meeting earlier in the month, the Bessemer Parks and Recreation Commission approved hiring Fahrner Excavating of Ironwood to clean out West Kallender Creek, which supplies the Bluff Valley Park fishing pond. Clearing out the creek is part of a plan to get the pond ready for youth fishing. According TheDailyGlobe, a permit is still needed to clear the creek and that has been applied for. Funding for those preparations is still needed, City Manager Jennifer Adams said staffing isn’t available to pursue funding but she encouraged the commissioners to pursue grant funding on their own. Commissioner Eric Longhini suggested a fundraiser in the summer might help, and that he would follow up on the idea.
