Ashland Working on Ways To Renovate Historic Building

The city of Ashland is working on making a decision on renovating the Vaughn Public Library. TheAshlandDailyPress reports the building needs more than $4 million dollars in repairs and renovations. The city has considered issuing 20 year bonds to cover the cost, with a 4% interest rate. That would mean an additional $71 a year for the average property owner. Residents of Ashland are enthusiastic about the project, as its been 40 years since the time work was done on the library. $4 million would cover bringing the building up to code, upgrading the electrical wiring and making it more energy efficient. And moving forward, city council president Charlie Ortman said he’d like to see a capital improvement plan drawn up to make sure proper maintenance continues to be done on the building in the future.
