The jobless rate in the U.P. for July was down from last year, 5.3% in June and 5.5% in July. In Iron County, July’s unemployment rate of 5.7% was the same as June’s rate but down from 6% in July 2022, with 272 unemployed. Ontonagon County showed the highest rate at 7.3%, but that was down from 8.1% in June. Gogebic’s unemployment rate was 5.3%. Unemployment rates increased in 51 of Michigan’s 83 counties in July, 14 counties were unchanged and 18 showed decreases in joblessness.
