BESSEMER – At a special meeting on the the 23rd, the Bessemer City voted to accept the resignation of city manager and interim clerk/treasurer Jennifer Adams. According to TheDailyGlobe, on the 16th Adams notified the council she wanted to resign as city manager but keep her job as clerk treasurer, but she also asked for a substantial bump in salary and wanted to keep the city manager’s benefits package. When the city pushed back, Adams resigned both positions. Adams has said she’ll remain in her positions until the 22nd of September. The long and short of the situation is that now there are two very important positions in Bessemer City government open, and with the current employment market, filling those two positions with strongly qualified candidates may prove difficult.
