Boy Drowns Near Boat Launch in Misery Bay

The name of a 7 year old boy who drowned near the boat launch at Misery Bay on Friday has not been released pending notification of his family. A call to the Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office reported a boy missing, feared to have drowned in the bay. The Ontonagon Sheriff’s Office launched a search. The boy was found in the water and CPR was begun. The boy was taken to U.P. Health System Portage and was pronounced dead on arrival. Volunteers, along with the Department of Natural Resources, Michigan State Police, Superior Search and Rescue, Adams Township First Responders, Baraga Search and Rescue, Gogebic Search and Rescue, M.S.P. (Calumet) K-9, National Coast Guard, Houghton County Marine Patrol, Mercy Ambulance and Ontonagon County Victim Services all aided in the search.
