A young man who served and died for his country will finally be returned home. Ensign William Finigan was born in Bessemer, and enlisted in the Navy at 20 years old in 1917 in Chicago. He trained as a radio man, aviation radio man, radio technician, radarman and sound man before being promoted to Ensign weeks before Pearl Harbor. He held the position of Chief Radio Electrician on the USS Oklahoma at the time of the Pearl Harbor attacks, where he perished with over 400 of his shipmates. Ensign William Finnegan will be laid to rest in the National Memorial Cemetary of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 7th.
