City of Ironwood Looking for Places to Put Plowed Snow This Winter

At Monday’s meeting of the Ironwood City Commission, a number of concerns regarding the dumping of snow in residential areas of the city were brought up . Neighbors complained that the current practice of having contractors move snow in vacant lots has caused noise issues, and when the snow melts there is excessive runoff and trash left in the lot. TheDailyGlobe reports that the City Manager said he was working with staff to find a suitable staff for contractors to dump snow, saying a spot near the city compost site might be of use. The commission voted on an ordinance that would prohibit snow dumping from non adjacent properties in residential districts and neighborhood commercial districts. The Mayor said the city will continue to look for a suitable place for that snow to go.
